Swain County Department of Social Services is recruiting for a Child Protective Services Social Worker

working with families and children while maintaining integrity, respect, transparency, and professionalism through the completion of thorough assessment of children’s safety, risk, permanency and well-being needs.
Serving families, children, and our community by providing intentional and comprehensive family-centered, solution focused assessment skills and interventions that will support a parent’s capacity to protect and nurture their children so children can be maintained in their own home when appropriate.
Working cohesively and collaboratively with families, children, the community, in-agency partners, and other child welfare entities to assure safety and support and strengthen families.
Striving for excellence in meeting all mandated standards in a fast-paced but rewarding environment, while sharing knowledge openly, anticipating customer needs and striving to always do it better.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Professional level casework providing protective, investigative, counseling and case management services for children who are at risk for neglect and/or abuse. To provide social work services including treatment and immediate response to safety issues with children. Work involves investigation of alleged neglect, abuse, and dependency; substantiation of the alleged neglect or abuse as prescribed by federal and state guidelines, providing expert testimony in court hearings, and following-up with case management and preventive services for clients. Social Worker may provide group, family or individual treatment to clients of any age and regarding any developmental, mental, medical, substance abuse, financial or family problem. Emphasis of this position will be on the complexity of casework, treatment, and investigation. Will rotate on-call duties with other staff. Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master's degree from an accredited school of social work; or
• Master's degree in counseling or human services field and 1 year of social work experience; or
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of social work and 1 year of social work experience; or
• Bachelor's degree in a human services field and 2 years of social work experience; or
• Bachelor's degree in a non-human services field and 3 years of social work experience
• Possession of a BSW with the Child Welfare Collaborative Scholarship/Waiver will replace one year of social work experience required.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: A valid Driver’s License with a safe driving record; Strong critical thinking and assessment skills; Excellent time management and organizational skills; Proficiency in the operation of computers, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other databases; This position is considered light work, lifting up to 20 pounds.
