Job description

A Role for a Manager Who Wants a Real Challenge – With Real Support Behind Them Let's be honest with you from the outset, because that's how we work. This is a 43-bed nursing home with a Good CQC rating – but we're not complacent about it. There is genuine work to do to strengthen and sustain that rating, and we're looking for a manager who sees that as an opportunity rather than a problem. If you're the kind of leader who is energised by taking a good service and making it demonstrably better – tightening governance, embedding quality systems, and building a team culture that holds standards without you having to chase them – this role will suit you. What we can promise is that you won't be doing it alone. The Support Around You A Regional Manager who has done the job. You'll report to a Regional Manager with extensive hands-on home management experience and clinically sound knowledge drawn from both high-acuity settings and nursing homes. That means when you raise a clinical governance issue, a staffing challenge, or a difficult regulatory question, you're talking to someone who understands it from the inside – and who will roll their sleeves up alongside you, not just ask for reports. A peer network of Home Managers across the patch. Our managers across the region genuinely support each other – sharing tools, benchmarking practice, problem-solving together, and picking up the phone when one of them needs a second opinion. You'll join an established group of experienced managers, not sit in isolation. An experienced central team. Group-level support on compliance, medication governance, policy, HR, and quality auditing – with well-developed audit tools, digital care planning (PCS) and eMAR systems already in place. This is a largely paperless, systems-led environment. The Role You'll take overall responsibility for the culture, quality, compliance, and performance of the home, with significant autonomy and clear accountability. Your priorities will include: Leadership & Culture – Provide visible, consistent leadership; build a professional, respectful, high-performing team; address performance issues constructively and fairly. Quality & Compliance – Maintain full CQC compliance; lead inspection readiness; drive improvement plans through to completion; ensure safeguarding, clinical governance, and risk management systems genuinely work – not just exist on paper. Governance & Auditing – Own the home's quality assurance cycle; ensure audits are completed accurately and actions followed through; use data and feedback to drive continuous improvement. Resident Experience – Ensure residents feel safe, supported, and at home; maintain high standards of person-centred care planning and review; manage concerns and complaints openly and professionally. Operational Management – Oversee staffing, rotas, recruitment, and retention; manage agency usage; ensure training, supervision, and appraisal systems are effective. Financial & Commercial – Manage budgets, support occupancy, and maintain strong relationships with commissioners. External Relationships – Represent the home professionally with families, professionals, commissioners, and the local community. Who We're Looking For Essential: Minimum 2 years' experience as a Care Home ManagerLevel 4 or Level 5 qualification in Health & Social Care (or equivalent)Track record of achieving and maintaining Good or Outstanding CQC outcomesStrong knowledge of regulatory compliance and safeguardingExperience managing medium-sized nursing homesConfidence in managing performance and having difficult conversationsHigh level of IT literacy – confident with digital care planning, auditing, rota, and compliance systems in a largely paperless environmentCommercial awareness and budget management experienceFull UK driving licenceDesirable: Registered Nurse with a valid NMC PINExperience leading service improvement or turnaround – if you've strengthened a service before and enjoyed it, we want to hear from youWhat We Offer Salary up to £65,000Performance-related bonusCompany pensionPaid breaksFree on-site parkingOngoing professional developmentA Regional Manager and peer manager network who will genuinely back youClear progression opportunities within a stable and growing groupWhy This Role, Why Now Plenty of Good-rated homes advertise for managers to "keep things ticking over."
