Deputy Ward Manager Location: Hertfordshire Salary: Up to £50,000 per annum + excellent benefits Hours: Full Time – 37.5 hours per week (including participation in an on-call rota and weekend working) Are you an experienced Registered Nurse looking to take the next step into leadership? We are recruiting on behalf of a leading independent hospital for a Deputy Ward Manager to join a well-established surgical ward team. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior ward nurse with strong clinical experience to develop their management skills while continuing to deliver outstanding patient care in a modern, supportive hospital environment. The Role Working closely with the Ward Manager, you will support the day-to-day running of a busy surgical ward, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care, patient safety and operational efficiency. You will lead by example, mentor the nursing team and help maintain a positive, patient-focused culture. Key Responsibilities Deputise for the Ward Manager in their absence. Support the day-to-day operational management of the ward. Assist with staff rostering and workforce planning. Lead and support clinical governance activities, including audits and quality improvement initiatives. Investigate incidents and complaints relating to the ward and implement learning outcomes. Act as a patient advocate, ensuring exceptional standards of care at all times. Provide hands-on clinical leadership and act as a role model for the nursing team. Monitor stock levels and support effective resource management. Liaise with other departments to ensure ward equipment is serviced and maintained. Participate in the hospital's on-call rota and weekend service. About You To be successful in this role, you will have: Registered Nurse with a valid NMC registration. Immediate Life Support (ILS) certification. AIMS qualification. ENB 998 (or equivalent teaching/mentorship qualification). Strong clinical background within an acute surgical ward environment. Previous experience in a senior nursing or leadership position. Excellent communication and leadership skills. Experience working collaboratively with consultants, multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders. A genuine commitment to delivering exceptional patient care.
